The State of Alabama is committed to maintaining its roads and highways; there is an enormous amount of continued road maintenance and re construction going on all over Alabama. Much of the work is done at night in order to reduce traffic congestion, which means our workers are harder to see, and driving through a work zone more difficult.

In Alabama the 2006 accidents in work zones were:

Property damage crashes- 1846

Injury crashes- 518

Number injured- 802

Fatal crashes- 29

Numbers killed- 37
